A lazy, quiet Sunday. I figured today my plan is to hit the best rooftop bars in Havana. Before leaving, I met with the director of reservations and wanted to develop a contact to call to secure certain rooms. The woman I meet is Maria Angeles and she is very helpful and gives me a contact number to call once I have my secured reservation. I like personal service. Someone I can talk to who remembers or knows me. That done I leave the Hotel to grab a cab.
My first stop was the Hotel Parc Centurale rooftop bar. The hotel is considered by many to be the best hotel in Havana. It is in an enviable location right on a small park and in Old Havana. I walk into the cavernous lobby and make my way to the top floor bar. The rooftop bar is a bi level structure with a large pool and tables, then down a short flight of steps to a larger area with more tables half in, half out of the elements as there is a flowered and vine cover overhand to keep out the rain. A nice bar complements the space. However, it is the view that is spectacular overlooking the Capital and the Havana theatre from one side, the rest of the city at the either end. I ordered a zombie just to see how they made other kinds of drinks. The drink was way too powerful and did not taste like a normal zombie. After a few sips, I switch to coffee as it was still only afternoon. The coffee finished it was time to move to the next rooftop.
I left the the hotel and made my was to The Hotel Ambos Mundos. This hotel/bar has the distinction of where Hemmingway lived and wrote portions if not all of Whom the Bell Tolls. His room 511 is open to be viewed but not on a Sunday. I took the old fashion, iron wrought elevator to the the top floor. You come out of the elevator make a right into the another wonderful outdoor space in the hot city of Havana. It seems that Havana seems to get ocean breezes when you are either on the water or higher up you can feel the change. The bar overlooks the St Christobal Cathedral and the ocean. This time I stick to old standard the daiquiri. It hit the stop. I relaxed and talked to this female from Zurich about Havana. She moved on and I relaxed a little more but began feeling tired and thought I would make my way home to relax on the patio over looking the Melacon and ocean. I walked a few blocks down toward the main avenue and waged for a Vintage convertible to show up. Below was my ride home and a car from another ride....
