Today I decided to do the Lonely Planet Architecture or one of them anyway. The walk took me pat some lovely buildings. However, unlike what the guidebook said they were either closed or being renovated. The thing I find about guidebook following is that they can been an annoyance to just wandering. You wander around with a not to scale map in hand with descriptions of various building trying to locate this or that building instead of just being present in the moment. It is like you are attempting to be present in another persons moment. Don't get me wrong guidebooks and information are extraordinary useful and help increase your ability to understand whatever it is you are seeing. Today was just an annoying experience with the guidebook information. So I chucked it and headed to the Hotel Ingeratere al fresco cafe for a cappuccino.
Now that I was fortified, I came up with a new plan. I was going to stop to see the Museum De Revolution. The museum is housed in the former Batista's Presidential Palace. It seems they were not without a sense of humor. A few block walk brought me to the entrance where I paid for a ticket and an extra $2 so I could use my camera. Next time, I won't pay the Duce because nobody check anyway if you snapped photos.
The revolution museums as one would suspect is all about Castro and Che and ......
Heavy on the propaganda along with blood stained uniforms on display. The funniest and best thing happened as soon as I walked in the museum. There is this "wall of shame" of Reagan dressed as a cowboy, George Bush Sr. In a roman toga and George Jr. with a Nazi helmet on. I thought that alone was worth the price of admission.
